Make a map viewport of size 96 x 96 pixels (Or smaller). It should scroll very quickly. ;D

Yes, C/++/objective is much faster, even though it really depends on the machine, not the language.

i always thought that BASIC was at least 30% faster than assembler, being interpreted rather then compiled. i also thought that because they were interpreted their speed was machine independent.

Bacause interpretation is like emulation, it will run at (at best) half speed, because for every instruction you type into TNT the computer must execute at least 2. One to turn the command into the computer's assembly code, and another to actually execute the command and relay the results.

i've been sarcastic for most of this thread. was beginning to wonder when someone would catch on. starting to think everyone thought i was, let's say, very inexperienced. in any event this has been one of the liveliest discussions i've had on these forums in a while.

No need to worry about that, you weren't exactly subtle in your sarcasm. On top of that, you've been on these forums for a while and most of us know.

Back to the topic, maybe you were thinking of the thread about scrolling with sprite tiles, and how it is faster than might be expected. (But still slower than regular map tiles.)

well, i found the post i was thinking of. it was from charlie, and he didn't say he found a faster way to scroll, just that he did somthing with scrolling, and it was fast. ner.

i feel like a bit of a goober now.

i was going to use the splitscreen mode for a sonic 2 style race mode

the other fast way of scrolling is to use sprites that loop around the screen, nice paralaxy sort of thing that runs at a high frame rate.

cheers
charlie
