Hello again. Something life-threatening has happened to my RPG, in that it seemse that with more than about one thousand data statements, the program and hence my computer freezes in an unpleasant manner. This is a problem - my RPG has a stupid amount of data and it all needs to be loaded, and I know that external data files mean either I create a text data file and edit it by hand, thus risking some smart alec changing my values around, or having to do the rather unwieldy option of creating a new tnt data file for everything every time I want to modify something. Data statements are the way for me, and revamping my entire code is a prospect to horrific to contemplate. please tell me there is another way.

Alternative ...

How about you include your DATA in an external file that you can easily edit and before releasing your game you'll include a little encryption so no "smart-ass" can change your data/game?
