Viewports are ineffective on my G4 800 imac under hardware mode... I can run a game in software mode and it works fine. Is this common?

When you say ineffective... do you mean it crashes, or do you mean it doesn't allow hardware-specific features like rotation and scaling... or speed?

Just not sure in what capacity hardware mode is being ineffective in your case.

Sorry, I was in a hurry back then. What I mean is that the background scrolls around fine but only if it is displaying the initial screen (ie the 800 x 600 I started with). anything beyond this is black. It looks like I took a snapshot of the screen and were moving it around against a black background. It's more a glitch than a crashing bug, but it is bad enough for me not to use viewports at all in a scrolling game.

Hey!

Thats sounds like my game when I run it on hardware mode!

Im on an old iMac G3 400.
Maybe there is an incompatibility bug in some graphics cards?
(If my computer even has one..)

Hmm...

1. Is it a Map Viewport, or just a Viewport?
2. What OS are you using?
3. What video card are you using?

My current project uses Map Viewport, and hardware mode works properly on these two systems:

OS9.2.2, ATI Nexus 128 video card
and
OS 10.2 and 10.3, GeForce4 MX video card

G4 800 imac, fitted with the default nvida gefoce 32mb graphics card. And it is just an ordinary viewport.

Calculations are also more sluggish in hardware mode i've found - please, this seems to affect lots of users, can it be fixed?
