How do I use the command "Open Map Viewport"? I tried treating the canvas as if it were the size of the map, but drawing the map section as if the canvas was big gives me problems: as soon as I scroll further than one tile out of the viewport, the map tiles repeat the section previously on the screen. The help says you can draw sprites as if the canvas were as large as the map. I'm confused!

I looked in the forum for a while to make sure no one else answered this already, but sorry if I waste someone's time.

Thanks for any help!

I answer my own question

Wow, as soon as I post I do the thing I try my best to avoid. Sorry about wasting everyone's time. It seems that finally asking for help actually helps motivate me to repeatedly make sure that I can't figure it out on my own. I found out that my problem was that when I opened the map viewport, I declared the map layer to be 1 instead of 0. Because of this, the map would be black, which got me thinking that I had to use the command "draw map section" which I didn't. TNT is great!
