I'll start by introducing myself. You can call me JAS and I'm currently developing 3 games - two using Coldstone and one is a FPS/3rdPS that is being programmed by a friend of mine. I love old sidescrollers and decided to give programming a try in order to make these. I have a site that showcases my art and will showcase my games in the future at: http://www.sinthesisent.com

I started programming (learning) a simple sidescroller yesterday when I ran into a problem (collsion detection - I just can't understand it - but give me time). I started looking through this forum and saw that the frame rate sucks on the tests using parallax scrolling. Then I though... Can we make the viewport 320x240 and double it onto the screen - like many games have before? Maybe this would enhance the frame rate enough to allow parallax scrolling at a decent frame rate. I'm just throwing this idea out because I'll most likely want parallax scrolling at some point in my games.

Thanks for the help in advance!
