Ok, on almost ALL TNT Basic games there is a LOT of flashing.

On Penguin Power, Beans, Bang On there is a TON of flashing.

I started a platform game but I can't work anymore on it until TNT fixes the flashing problem.

The flashing is an OSX problem I believe. Play any of them under OS 9 and you'll be fine.

The TNT Doc's make it known that is hasn't been optimized fully for OSX yet so I'm certainly suggesting anyone run Penguin Power on OS 9 only, play on OSX at your own risk!

In penguin power the only things flashing are the Ice Blocks and cracked area above the popsicle at the end.

If my games wont run on OS X properly then I might as well not buy TNT Basic. If I wanted to easily make a game that would only run on OS 9 then I would use Klik n Play since it is free.

Flashing

The flashing occurs on a few iBooks and any Mac running OS X 10.2. We are going to release a bug fix update for this and a few other bugs shortly.

Thanks,
John

thanks

Thank you very much.

I used to run 10.1 and I had no problems and it seemed weird that after I installed 10.2 everything started going flicker crazy.

hoping...

i think TNT Basic should show more support for OS X. By 2003 new macs wont even run in OS 9 so you might as well optimise it now.

i was pleased with mobius whale wars, it ran perfect in os x - no flickering.

Problems in different modes

I believe the flickering occurs in softWare mode under OSX?

but..

it doesn't happen in any version of OS X except 10.2 though.

Yes, the flashing only occurs in software mode. Run the program in hardware mode (its better that way anyway :D) and the flashing goes away.

I am running on OS 9 and have installed the update but when i run the scrolling examples with a custom map some of the components such as trees and roads flash and the scrolling doesn't work. Does anyone have a solution to my problem?
Also i am in the process of developing an over head shooter tank game sort of like tank battalion does any one have any advice or tips for me. Thanks
Bud Upchurch

Hi Bud,

Did you make any changes to the example source code in order to make it flash? We've not experienced any flashing at all under OS 9, it had (until now?!) been a Mac OS X problem.

Cheers,

Mark

Mark,
I left the code as it was and the only change I made was, the map was different. It was the same size map but the tiles were double the size.

Flashing Graphics

Do you have any blank tiles in your new map? They can cause flickering graphics.

John,
All the tiles in the map are filled and the code is the same as the scrolling demo but I just made a change, I now have a tank that can scroll around the map, but it still flashes.

I don't suppose you could send me your project so I can take a look at it could you?

John,
Thank you for your concern but I think I found the problem. I tried a different set of tiles and it worked fine. I guess my first set was bad. Thanks, Bud
