Hardware Mode ROCKS! some questions?

Yeah, tried integrating hardware mode into the game
i've been working on - GREAT!
Udev contest, here I come!

But noticed a few strange differences between hardware
and normal mode...

Drawing large pictures on the screen seems slow,
also there are weird slowdowns here and there...
And some of my text is now the wrong color?

Will elaborate after more time and testing...

transitions

Maybe I'm missing something, but I need to start in Graphics mode to keep some of the graphics nice and smooth, but the map scrolling system requires Hardware mode, how do I switch between the two?
Any help welcome.

Map Scrolling

The map scrolling system does not require hardware mode.

Never mind, I found it. Hardware mode is slow but runs smoother.

hardware mode ups and downs

well, you'll notice that harware mode is slower in some
ways, faster in others...
(probably differs by individual mac hardware also)

After changing some of my code I find it's worth it
for me, but "your milage may vary"...

(for instance, i'm not using any type of scrolling
on this particular project...)
