If you want to have sprite rotation, is it more efficient to have each part of the rotation process as a separate sprite or can some sort of realtime rotation routine be used?

Thanks!

Rotating sprites

Hi there,

We'll have sprite rotating in the next version of TNT Basic - which should be along very soon.

If you want to do it yourself - I would suggest prerotating the sprite images. I doubt you'll be able to do it fast enough in real time in TNT Basic.

Thanks

Mark

Real Time TNT Rotation?

I know TNT wouldn't be fast enough to rotate images real time. But even if you write assembled routines to do this, I still question how if it would be fast enough for real time. Although, todays computers are pretty fast.

Yeah, I suppose using pre-rotated sprites is the way to go. I was trying to keep the program size down so I though about real-time rotation. Will the forthcoming built-in rotation system allow for rotation on the fly or would it be used to build up libraries of sprites??? Thanks!

Rotation and program sizes

You can just pre-rotate the images when you load the game. It can paste them onto a canvas, rotate them using get pixel and set pixel commands and then pick them up again using the 'get sprite image' command.

That will allow you to keep the file sizes down and be faster than real time rotation.

The rotation commands in the new TNT Basic will be real time.

Cheers,

Mark

ROTATION is great!

ROTATION is great! Thanks! ;-)
a welcome adition to TNT that will add lots of possibilities.

Certainly a TNT game will win IDev this year.

BTW
Will realtime "sprite flipping" be there also?

Sprite Rotation

The new graphics system supports real time sprite rotation, scaling and flipping.

Thanks,
John

Yeah, the more you think about it the more essential these tools become in a 2D based system. Any idea when the next release including these tools will be available??

Cheers
