Add a Strings Tab!

Here's what I mean.

Many games (Especially RPG's) use tons of strings of Text in them.

Usually people set it up by either defining each string before time like:
Text(1) = "Text"
Text(2) = "Text again"
Text(3) = "Yet more text"

then later they call the text for maybe a character needs to say it.

What I propose is you add a new Tab to the editor window called "Strings". Here you define strings of text the same as you would Music.

Then later on when you need it, you call it like this:

SampleString = TextString (35)
Print SampleString

It would be a nice idea, don't ya think? And it'd make lots of games like RPG's easier. Because characters like to talk alot.

I think that's a very good idea. In fact I'm kicking myself for not thinking of it :)

I'll look into adding that for a future version.

Yes very good suggestion, having some kind of text or string resource would really come in handy.

Good idea!

This idea is in fact similar to the message catalogues used in C/C++. Their main use is to provide National Language Support (NLS), which means in order to translate the program for a different lanaguage you just have to change the text in the message catalogue, you don't have to touch the source code in any way.

I think, you should consider NLS if you are going to implement string resources.

Yep, in a future version, although probably not for a short while.

In the meantime, why not use data and read statements to store your strings. You can use the 'restore' command to change which data set you read from and label them according to their language?

Not ideal, but a work around :)

We'll get this in a future version, thanks for the good idea!
